The origins of International Women’s Day as a Ukrainian national holiday date back to the Soviet era. It’s similar to Mother’s Day but is held in honour of all women and not just mothers.
It’s the time of year when Ukrainian men have to put their hands in their pockets and splurge on flowers and gifts for the women in their lives.
Many restaurants in the city hold special events and advanced booking is highly recommended. It’s also a busy night in the clubs as many offer free or reduced price entrance for girls.
In 2017 International Women’s Day falls on Wednesday March 8.
